Since his début with the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle and at the Salzburg Festival with Magdalena Kožená, Christian Schmitt has been amongst the most internationally sought-after organists. He is famed for his virtuoso and charismatic playing. Since 2014, he has been principal organist with the Bamberg Symphony, for which he curates the organ series held at the Konzerthalle Bamberg. During the 2021/22 season, he is the “Artist in Focus” of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, as well as the curator of the “International Organ Days” held there, and is inaugurating the Tonhalle’s new organ under the baton of Paavo Järvi.

His most recent highlights include his début at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic; performances with the Staatskapelle Berlin, conducted by Daniel Barenboim; the Japanese première of Toshio Hosokawa’s “Embrace – Light and Shadow” with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra at Suntory Hall; and the release of his latest recording, Hindemith Chamber Music No. 7 with conductor Christoph Eschenbach.
