The fine book, full of fascinating illustrations, by Heinz Theodor Jüchter about the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal: It is not just a quick tour of the history of the house from its beginnings in the early years of the 20th century to the present day. Two chapters are devoted to its extensive restoration between 1991 and 1995. The book also covers the cultural highlights in the almost 110 year history of the Historische Stadthalle and the informative text and numerous colour photos bring to life the spirit and atmosphere of this wonderful "people's palace".

The author, Heinz Theodor Jüchter, was Wuppertal's town councillor responsible for cultural affairs from 1980 to 2000. He has already written many books about Wuppertal and the surrounding area, known as the Bergisches Land, before now describing the "Jewel of the Town": the Historische Stadthalle.
